We love to do rescue work and take in animals when we can. Here are before and after photos of our kiddos.
This is Fancy. When we bought Fancy, she had a badly sprained near back fetlock. She wouldn't put any weight on it and it was hugely swollen. Her future didn't look good with that type of injury and she was only 2! Carlo & I fell in love so we brought her home to heal.
After 4 months of supplements, wraps, ice boots and rest, her fetlock remained slightly swollen, but she is sound. She is an absolute doll and we are very happy she joined our herd.

This is Shyloh. We rescued her from a series of bad situations, being shuffled from home to home, unwanted. We loved Shy with all our hearts, and it was devastating to lose her. We will always miss her, and every horse we rescue is in her honor. Rest in peace, my beautiful girl.
This is Elliot. The "people" that owned Elliot decided to leave him behind when they moved to Texas. They just left him in a field, like he was a piece of farm machinery. He was in pretty bad shape, and would have starved to death in a few weeks.
His new life began in January 2008 when a very nice couple named Jim & Joan took him in and saved his life. They became very attached to Elliot while he was recuperating in their care, but they needed a little help to keep him. We donated some hay and the payment for his gelding surgery, and all is well. Jim & Joan got their dream horse, and Elliot got his forever home.
Update! Elliot is doing very well with Jim & Joan! He has put on weight and is now a happy healthy boy. Look what love and feed can do.
Congratulations Elliot!
Before Elliot was in need of rescue, he stood at stud in Antigo, WI. Jim and Joan bred their Appaloosa mare Oreo to Elliot in the summer of 2007 because they thought he was gorgeous and had a wonderful personality. Things have come full circle and now they are the proud owners of a BLM Mustang Maggie, Elliot, Oreo and Elliot's legacy....Misty!
This is Majesty. Maj was owned by a schizophrenic man who lived in our town. She spent most of her life on my husbands Grandfather's farm. She had a sad life, she was kept in the barn, underfed, unsocialized, neglected and very likely beaten. One day her owner left for Arizona, and much like Elliot's situation she was left behind.
She became our first rescue and we grew very attached to her during the nine months we were her caretakers. Unfortunately, because of an agreement made between my husband's father and her crazy owner, we were unable to keep her when he showed back up one day and wanted to take her. We will probably never know what her fate was, but at least she was happy while she was with us. We only hope that Maj is in a good place or is at peace. I can't say I wish the same for her owner, however. I hope he rots.
This is Darby. We adopted Darby from Specialty Purebred Cat Rescue, an organization that takes purebred cats out of shelters and finds them forever homes. Darby was surrendered by his original owner because they had a 2 year old child that liked to torture him, so Darby was forced to live in the basement. Personally I think they picked the wrong one to give up, but that's just me.
Darby is a very laid-back mellow boy. He likes to sit on the arm of the couch or chair and supervise whatever you are doing. He seemed to make himself comfortable as soon as we brought him home. He didn't have any problems adjusting to his new family, and did the "happy dance" in his (clean) litter box to show us how he felt.
Such a handsome boy!
This is Zena. She came to us through Lucky G Ranch (where we bought Zig). Zena was a LGD in MN, but she was a little too good at her job and kept the ram away from the ewes during breeding season. LOL. Her owner surrendered her to Lucky G for placement in a forever home, which was us.
Zena is a real sweetie who lives for her job as a LGD. She has become more comfortable around humans but her flock or herd is her family. She loves attention but it has to be on her terms, unfamiliar people make her very nervous.
